Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine

I am passionate about healthy living on all levels. Helping people create balanced, healthy lives is my soul work, the product of a long and meaningful journey of self discovery and healing.

Fifteen years ago, I first discovered Chinese medicine, when it relieved the severe nausea I experienced during my pregnancy. As I began to study and use this ancient art, I found that it cleared my headaches, improved my moods, and generally improved my sense of well being.

The more I learned, the more I fell in love with Chinese medicine, and I undertook to study it in earnest.

I have been studying Chinese culture, meditation, and natural health for nearly two decades, and I have ten years of experience prescribing medicinal herbs. I specialize in using natural methods to treat women's health problems, including painful menstruation, menopause, and hormonal mood swings.

My background
I am currently on the faculty at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences, and work as a consultant at Elephant Pharmacy in Berkeley. In addition to my private practice in Oakland, I volunteer my services at the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic for low-income women with cancer.

I received my master's degree in traditional Chinese medicine at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences. I also have a background in Western science, with a bachelor's in biochemistry from the University of Virginia. In addition, I have done graduate work in anthropology and Chinese language at the University of Chicago.

Before beginning my study of Chinese medicine, I worked as a research associate in biotechnology. This work made me very familiar with laboratory and clinical research techniques, and to be part of the exciting world of developing new medical treatments. It also helped me to realize that there must be a better approach to healing. I knew that I wanted to help others in a way that embodied my personal ethics of balancing body, mind, and spirit.

My areas of specialty
I treat a wide variety of patients, but I have a special interest in working with women with chronic pain and illness. I specialize in the treatment of painful periods, PMS, endometriosis, and other gynecological conditions. For women suffering from these problems, Chinese medicine offers gentle, natural solutions.

Through acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutrition therapy, I aim to help you bring your body into balance. With a holistic approach to healing, the results are often quick and dramatic. Your body can heal itself - and you don't need hormones or drugs to do it! Nutritional advice, guided meditation, and deep relaxation are always part of my treatments, and in depth consultations in these areas can be arranged.

There are natural solutions to your health problems - I'd like to help you discover them!
