Third generation practitioner of Chinese medicine in Oakland, CA

Maria Jia-Yu Yung, L.Ac., Q.M.E.
Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine

I am a third-generation practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine, following a tradition started over 70 years ago by my grandmother. Like my grandmother, Dr. Bin Yin Lee, I specialize in women's health, particularly in the treatment of chronic menstrual problems and infertility.

My Training
My introduction to Chinese medicine began at my grandmother's clinic, and in my uncle's herb shop in Oakland's Chinatown. I later received formal training in a four-year graduate program at the Academy of Chinese Culture & Health Sciences in Oakland, California. During this Master's degree program, I completed over 3,000 classroom hours, and 900 clinic hours in a busy community clinic.

After receiving my California license, I continued my training at Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in Hangzhou, China. At Zhejiang and its affiliated hospitals, I undertook post-graduate clinical studies, focusing on the treatment of pain and women's health problems with Chinese medicine.

Women's Health
Chinese medicine is remarkably effective in the treatment of women's health problems, including painful menstruation, endometriosis, irregular periods, menopausal problems, and more. While modern medicine relies on hormone therapy or surgery, Chinese medicine offers safe, natural relief for these problems.

Infertility
One of my favorite areas of my practice is using acupuncture and Chinese herbs to help women become mothers. Whether used alone or in combination with modern fertility techniques, Chinese medicine can improve a woman's chances of conceiving and carrying a baby safely to term.

Integrative Medicine
I am well trained in modern medicine, and as a Qualified Medical Evaluator often serve as a bridge between Eastern and Western medical thinking. As a strong advocate of the integration of Chinese medicine with modern medical therapies, I encourage my patients to pursue different healing techniques.

In most cases, there is no conflict between the gentle therapies of Chinese medicine and modern drug therapy - you do not need to stop your current treatment before trying acupuncture or herbal medicine. I will work with you and your doctor to design a safe, effective treatment plan for you.

If you are wondering how Chinese medicine can help you, please call. I would be very happy to discuss your problems with you and tell you if acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine would be right for you. Please call me at (510) 444-2272.
