Lorenzo Puertas, L.Ac.
Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine

Lorenzo Puertas, L.Ac., Q.M.E.

Treatment Philosophy

I am trained in Chinese medicine, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, and diet therapy. Using these techniques, I help my patients recover from a variety of painful conditions. I have experience working with chronic illness, sports injuries, work injuries, repetitive strain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other pain syndromes.

My approach to pain management produces both immediate relief of symptoms and long-term results -- quick pain relief through acupuncture, and lasting healing through herbal medicine, diet therapy, body strengthening, and lifestyle changes.

I encourage my patients to pursue different healing techniques, and I maintain close working relationships with medical doctors, massage therapists, naturopaths, chiropractors, and other healthcare providers.

Education

I earned my undergraduate degree in Philosophy at the University of California at Berkeley, and later earned a Master's degree in traditional Chinese medicine at the Academy of Chinese Health Sciences. I later undertook additional training in the treatment of pain and the management of work injuries. I was appointed a Qualified Medical Evaluator by the State of California in 2003.

My medical education also includes training as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman serving as a reservist with a U.S. Marine Corps infantry company. I have worked on an ambulance in Alameda County, California and have served in a variety of emergency medicine training positions.

Experience

I’ve been very active in the profession of Oriental medicine. I’ve served on the Board of Directors of the California State Oriental Medical Association, as Editor-in-Chief of the California Journal of Oriental Medicine, and as member of various other herbal medicine organizations. I am the author of several journal articles on Chinese herbal medicine, and I’m a contributor to Chinese Herbal Patent Medicines, the standard reference work on the topic in English. I have also served as an instructor at the Academy of Chinese Health Sciences.

Helping You

If you are wondering how Chinese medicine can help you, please call. I would be very happy to discuss your problems with you and tell you if acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine would be right for you.

"You said once 'No one has to live with pain'. From my first treatment, I felt the truth of these words. I should have come in a long time ago."
