Gentle, soothing Craniosacral therapy
Craniosacral therapy was developed by Dr. John Upledger following extensive scientific studies at Michigan State University, where he developed new theories about the relationship of the nervous system to overall health.
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the craniosacral system, which is made up of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
During a treatment, your practitioner will use a very soft touch to detect and release restrictions in the craniosacral system. Through this process, you will experience an improvement in the functioning of your central nervous system, and through that, your entire body. It is a very relaxing experience.
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, Craniosacral therapy is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to strengthen your body's resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopedic Problems
- Learning Disabilities
- Chronic Fatigue
- Emotional Difficulties
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
At East Bay Pain Care, Craniosacral Therapy is performed by Christina Lisac, who studied with the Upledger Institute. Christina also received training in Chinese massage techniques at the Academy of Chinese Health Sciences, where she is also a student in the master's program in Chinese medicine. Christina earned her bachelors degree in human development at the University of California, Davis.
